False Prophet

A little background first.

Numbers in the hand in the marketplace. In a number of countries where haggling is the normal way of doing business, there are ways of indicating numbers with the positions of the fingers. The buyer and the seller will cover their hands with a cloth and then form their fingers into the numbers that they are bargaining with. And feel one another's hand to know what number is offered. That way no one around them knows what the high price the seller is asking nor the low price that the buyer is offering. And if the transaction is done carefully, no one knows what the final price is either. That way no future purchase is affected by the present transaction which is just the way the buyer and seller want it. It does not affect their future bargaining positions.

Numbers and letters. Each letter of the 22 letter Hebrew alphabet is associated with a number. As follows...

A 1, B 2, G 3, D 4, E 5, W 6, Z 7, Hh 8, Th 9

Y 10, K 20, L 30, M 40, N 50, S 60, O 70, P 80, Ts 90

Q 100, R 200, Sh 300, T 400

So W = 6, KW = 26, ShW = 306 etc

Because the alphabet only goes as high as 400, 500 through 900 are indicated as follows

TQ = 400 + 100 = 500, TR = 600, TSh = 700, TT = 800, TTQ = 900

Hebrew grammar. The sound /o:/ on the end of a noun indicates the possessive "of him" and is written with W. So if we have the word "SWS" /su:s/ meaning "horse", then "SWSW" /su:so:/ means "his horse"

On the other hand if we have the name of a city or place such as APYR /epi:r/ meaning "Epirus" where the -us is a Latin ending, then APYRW /epi:ro:/ doesn't mean "his Epirus", but rather "man of Epirus".

In Revelation two beasts are introduced. The first beast is the False Messiah. The second beast is the False Prophet. At one point it says, translating literally, "to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads and that no one should be able to buy or sell except he who has the mark or the name of the beast or the number of the name of him" - which is 666.

The way Blavatsky's Ebionites read this is that "the mark or the name of the beast" refers to the first beast, the False Messiah, which is Jesus, and the mark is the sign of the cross on the forehead.

And a pause should be read after the first phrase so that the second phrase "or the number of the name of him" refers to the second beast, the False Prophet, whose name is given by the number 666.

In Hebrew letters 666 is written TRSW /tarso:/ which they read as "man of Tarsus" and identify as Paul of Tarsus, the False Prophet.

They were of the opinion that Paul started out by misunderstanding their teaching about Jesus and thought that they taught that he was the Messiah and an aspect of God - which was blasphemy and so he persecuted them.

Then he had a conversion experience and began to teach as true what he had previously thought was blasphemy. When they tried to inform him that he was wrong and they had never taught that, he informed them that he was the 13th apostle and that they were the wrong ones because he was called by Jesus himself.

Curiously, many biblical scholars - in secular universities of course - consider that the modern Christian churches are descendants of the teachings of Paul and have nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus, whatever those may have been.
