The animals that jewish Ebionites eat must be
as far as possible vegetarian and travel in groups. Cattle, sheep, goats and
deer are allowed as they are all vegetarian and are at least sometime in herds
or flocks. Donkeys, camels and horses are out because they are too much loners
and might only group to mate. Birds allowed include chickens, geese and ducks
because they flock well and can live on plants though they might eat bugs or
fish as well. Only scaly fish since some scaly fish swim in schools and who
knows what fish eat. Only locusts among bugs as they definitely travel in
groups and eat plants. Although gentile Ebionites may eat pretty much
any animal, the slaughtering rules make a lot of animals impractical. Lobsters,
oysters and octopots are all out because theres no way to kill them fast and
painlessly. Being dunked into boiling water is pretty fast but not liable to be
painless. Also any thing kept as a work animal or pet is absolutely out as that
would be extremely disrespectful. |
