Just a bit of Cosmology. On a circle mark a
vertical line and a horizontal line through the center. Then divide the
quadrants into 30 degree segments. That is now a sort of compass rose. The 12
segments correspond to the signs and houses of the Zodiac. As any professional
Astrologer knows, the Ptolemaic ascription of planets to the signs doesn't
match up too well and the ascription to the houses is double plus ungood. Many
attempts have been made to correct this but in vain. Curiously enough the
Theosophic ascription fits perfectly and thus is possibly the original but Baum doesn't reference it. You can find it at Theosophic Zodiac. On the other hand he does relate to the
cardinal directions. So if you stand in the center of the circle facing South,
then East is to your left, West is to your right and North is behind you. Above
is above you and Below is below you and Center is where you are at. Those are
the seven directions. 1 Clear Sun at the Center, 2 Purple Moon at the
North where the Sun is Absent, 3 Orange Mercury Below, the Foundation of the
rotating Sphere, 4 Green Venus at the East where the Sun is Born, 5 Red Mars at
the West where the Sun Dies, 6 Blue Jupiter Above where the rotating Sphere is
Guided and 7 Yellow Saturn to the South where the Sun is Complete at its
Extreme height. |
